About Book Reviews

IMPORTANT NOTE: I’m sorry, but due to a crazy work schedule and the general insanity of my life, I am not currently accepting requests for Book Reviews. Again, I’m sorry.

I am currently trying to make my book reviews more consistent, especially now that I’ve been doing so many of them.  So, here’s the deal.  I will be doing book reviews of books I buy as well as ARCs and books I’ve won in contests.  I can’t guarantee I’ll do a book review of every book I read – I read a lot of books, many of which are for school, and I don’t have THAT much free time on my hands.  But I’ll do as many as I can.

I will read almost any genre, including drama, mystery/crime, horror, fantasy, science fiction, etc.  I read both Young Adult and adult fiction.  However, my favorite genres are definitely fantasy and science fiction.  I have a soft spot for retellings/twists on fairy tales.  I also am extremely interested in novels with an LGBT focus, because there simply aren’t enough of them, and the ones that are out there are hard to find.

If you would like me to do a review of your book, I will most likely be more than willing to do so.  However, here are a few things to keep in mind:

1) I am a PhD student.  During the Fall (Sept-early Dec) and Spring (Feb-mid May) semesters, my time is extremely limited.  I do still do SOME side-reading, especially near the beginning of the semester, before things get too crazy, but by the second half of the semester I am usually swamped.  During those times I’m still willing to take requests, as long as it’s understood I probably won’t actually be reading again until the end of the semester.  Summer break is, however, entirely open and up for grabs.

2) I don’t read erotica.  I don’t have anything against it.  And I have no doubt there is some very well written erotica out there.  It’s just not my thing.

3) If you’d like to send me a copy of your book to review, be aware that I am perfectly happy to accept either a print or a Kindle ebook copy, so which ever is easiest for you, is fine with me.

4) If you need a review within a certain time free, please give me plenty of advanced warning, and should be able to accommodate you.

And from now on I will be using a 5 point rating system as followed:

5 out of 5 – OMG! Awesome!

4 out of 5 – You need to read this!

3 out of 5 – Pretty good, and enjoyable.

2 out of 5 – Eh… not so much.

1 out of 5 – Um, no.

0 out of 5 – Hell no.

(with a very extra special 6 out of 5 which essentially means: I can die happy now!)

Okay, I think that’s everything.  So, if you’d like me to do a review for you, please contact me at rudd(dot)am@gmail(dot)com.

  1. Dear Ms. Rudd,

Read your blog on “Watership Down” and loved it.

I know, from the header on your blog on Book Reviews, that you are extremely busy this time of year; however if I sent you a copy of my own Rabbit novel “The Warren”, could you please place it aside, and review it when you have the time?

This is the first of three animal novels I have already completed; three from a series of four novels in “The Warren” series of novels, and one from my other “Revenant” series of animal novels. It took me ten years to find a publisher who had enough faith in the novel to publish it, and all the reviews on Amazon.com have been five star (with one four star review), but I simply need reviews.

I am a new and virtually unknown author, there is simply no money for publicity, and while they are trying for me; my publisher has many other projects to push. Another publisher, who could not publish the novel (Too many other commitments, having just acquired another publishing house), sent it back with the review that this was a novel of, “beautiful heartbreaking animal stories”; and that gave me the faith to hang in there for years; knowing that there was something good in this novel.

    My novels Facebook page is:

    Thank you for reading this,
    Fred L. Tate
